computers, information technology, internet, network...the array goes on. these words have become so overused in our modern society that we tend to be dependent on them. what was it that made it sound so attractive and important? is it really so powerful that it became the replacement for our brains? and what’s more intelligent – our brains or the computer?
everywhere you look: from stores to national defense, computers are in operation. the computer provides an effective, fast, accurate and reliable way to arrange tasks. the word processing software offers a variety of styles in which documents can be produced.
the accounting package ensures efficient financial management. that is the reason why we rely on the computer to process our work. the computer owns an amazing storage capacity of up to 200 gigabytes – something which is impossible with the human brain. speed, multitasking and accuracy are other qualities where it exceeds the human brain.
yet because computers show exceptional strength in various criteria of assessment, people tend to think that knowing how to operate a computer or machine is everything. people began to adopt such beliefs and do not feel the necessity to gain other skills. an engineer once said, “the thing with high-tech is that we always end up using scissors.” although high-tech plays a vital role in our lives, we still need basic tools such as scissors. similarly, reading and thinking may not be replaced by computers.
humans are advanced because we have the ability to create tools to enhance our lives. and we've done just that with the invention of computers.
